Toronto Rock 'n' Roll Revival 1969, Volume IV is a live album of the Alice Cooper Band. Due to the fact that the recording is owned by a private party, it is unauthorized but not a bootleg. It features Alice Cooper's infamous chicken-throwing performance at the Toronto Rock and Roll Revival festival at Varsity Stadium in Toronto on September 13, 1969 and showcases the early psychedelic music style of Cooper and his band in support of their very first album release, Pretties for You.
Ed Ward tells the complex, unruly history of rock and roll like few other writers can. He deftly separates sacred myths from the often brutal realities while connecting the various styles, races, cities and scenes into a coherent national saga. Mr. Ward writes with rare wisdom, insight and humor but most of all, a passionate love for this still powerful music. Dave Alvin, Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter and cofounder with his brother Phil of the Blasters. The above are mere addendums to a treasure trove of information found in The History of Rock & Roll, Volume One: 1920 – 1963. The book is an excellent addition to the reference materials of anyone interested in Rock & Roll.

The coming of rock & roll in the mid-Fifties was not merely a musical revolution but a social and generational upheaval of vast and unpredicatable scope. It also represented a major reversal in the business of popular music. Rock & roll proved an all-American, multi-ethnic hybrid, its sources and developing substyles too various to be explained away by blues plus country or any other reductionist formula.
At a time when most music purveyors and consumers care little about history, context, who wrote a song, who played on it, who produced it, which region it burst from, what inspired it, which label it was released on, and other important sniff-snaff, I think we should all get down on our knees every so often and thank the great cosmic duck. for the unswerving Ace Records and all who sail in her. Disinterred, as usual, by the meticulous and inexhaustible Rob Finnis, this is the 12th volume of 45 rpm treasure. Some familiar; some obscure
