Bach, Bach Collegium Japan, Masaaki Suzuki collection. Bach · Secular Cantatas – Vol. 9. Format: SACD, Album. Geschwinde, Ihr Wirbelnden Winde, BWV201 - Dramma Per Musica. Der Streit Zwischen Phoebus Und Pan. Text By – Christian Friedrich Henrici.

Masaaki Suzuki and Bach Collegium Japan bring us the ninth volume in the ambitious undertaking to record the secular cantatas of the great Baroque composer. The wonderfully virtuosic and detail-oriented period-instrumental ensemble and choir perform BWV 201 and BWV 207a with careful attention to historical practices in this beautifully recorded release. 96 kHz, 24-bit PCM – BIS Studio Masters.

Bach Collegium Japan was founded in 1990 by Masaaki Suzuki, its inspirational Music Director, with the aim of introducing Japanese audiences to period instrument performances of great works from the baroque period.

The complete Bach cantata cycle by Masaaki Suzuki rolls on with some of the secular cantatas, among the composer's least-known works. This is odd for several reasons. The two cantatas recorded here were designated "drama per musica," and the secular cantatas in general are as close as we have to operas by Bach. Further, the secular cantatas are often humorous and topical in nature in a way that Bach's other music is not.

For this week's Choral Featured Album, we present . Bach: Secular Cantatas, Vol. 9 - The Contest Between Phoebus and Pan, the new release from Bach Collegium Japan. Comprising 25 tracks, the record includes Der Streit zwischen Phoebus und Pan, BWV 201, and Auf, schmetternde Tone, BWV 207a. Johann Sebastian Bach, Bach Collegium Japan, Masaaki Suzuki.

Chamber Bach Collegium Japan. Most of Johannes Sebastian Bach’s secular cantatas were written for specific political, academic or private festive occasions.
