Stormwatch is the twelfth studio album by the progressive rock group Jethro Tull, released September 1979. It is considered the last in the trilogy of folk-rock albums by Jethro Tull (although folk music influenced virtually every Tull album to some extent). Among other subject-matters, the album touches heavily on the problems relating to the environment, oil and money.

Stormwatch is the twelfth studio album by Jethro Tull. Shop stormwatch on burning shed. It is considered the last in the trilogy of folk-rock albums by Jethro Tull (although folk music influenced virtually every Tull album). This is the last Tull album to feature the classic line-up of 1970s. Bassist John Glascock, suffering at this point from the effects of a cardiac infection that eventually led to his death, is only featured on three tracks ( Flying Dutchman, Orion, and Elegy ). Ian Anderson played bass elsewhere on the album while Dave Pegg played on the subsequent tour. The instrumental piece Elegy was written by David Palmer. Dun Ringill is the historic site of an Iron Age fort on the Isle of Skye, which served as the original seat of the Clan MacKinnon.

Arranged By – Jethro Tull. Art Direction – Peter Wagg. Composed By – David Palmer (2) (tracks: B5), Ian Anderson (tracks: A1 to B4). Drums, Percussion – Barriemore Barlow. Electric Guitar, Mandolin, Guitar – Martin Barre. Engineer – Robin Black. Engineer – Leigh Mantle. Stormwatch ‎(LP, Album). 6307 670. Jethro Tull.

Jethro Tull's 12th studio album, Stormwatch, concludes with "Elegy," a quiet instrumental of pastoral acoustic guitar and melancholy strings. The title is appropriate. Composed by al arranger David Palmer in honor of his late father, the three-minute piece serves as a gentle swan song for bassist John Glascock, who died from effects of a cardiac infection soon after being dismissed from the band (and only playing on three tracks). But it's also an elegy in a broader sense, a quiet mourning for Tull's classic era - the '70s

A slightly harder edged Jethro Tull album, with more guitar orientated tracks than we are used to. Anderson's flute, while regularly used of course, is not as dominant as on other Tull albums. A number of the tracks are orchestrated, with the lengthy "Dark ages" in particular benefiting from the rounder sound. Stormwatch" is yet another underrated JETHRO TULL album. This also signaled the end of an era. It would be the last album for the most effective JT lineup.

Stormwatch’s album cover always seemed to me to be rather prophetic of Jethro Tull’s near future. A seafarer clad in a mournful black, raindrops dripping from his ragged beard, defiantly and undauntedly gazes through binoculars into the coming tempest, prepared for the approaching storm. This mariner is not unlike Ian Anderson, whose band was on the very brink of collapse by the time that the album was released.
