In 1976 Brian Eno visited Harmonia's studio in the Weserbergland region of northern Germany to create what would become one of the most cherished artifacts of the genre on "Tracks and Traces". Harmonia comprised of multi instrumentalists Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Dieter Moebius (also known as Cluster) with former Kraftwerk and Neu! member, Michael Rother, and together with the like-minded synth maestro Eno they created twelve tracks of seminal instrumental exploration.

Free Music from Brian Eno: Fans of ambient music and Brian Eno will want to watch for a new album on the new Amazing Sounds label, Harmonia & Eno ’76 Remixes. The album features remixes of tracks from the classic album Tracks & Traces by Shackleton, Appleblim & Komonazmuk.

The pieces were conjured in a remote studio in Forst, Germany, slightly before Eno hooked up with Bowie to produce the Harmonia and Krautrock influenced Low album. The sessions were intended to be low-pressure exchanges without the distracting and limiting structures of the album format intervening in the creative process. In fact, Harmonia had allegedly even broken up before superfan Eno showed up at their doorstep.

But what makes Tracks and Traces so fascinating isn't its historical value. It's that the experiments conducted by Eno, Roedelius, Rother and Moebius here still sound great. Assuredly probing the reaches of their respective talents, this is the sound of four legends at their artistic peak finding new forms of expression, finally presented properly.
