Album Interstate Gospel. Interstate Gospel Lyrics. Jesus is the bread of life, without him you're toast Hallelujah y'all, I've found the holy ghost To be almost saved only means that you're lost Sins are expensive and Jesus paid the cost. These church signs, they light up these roads that I roam They're leading me closer, they're calling me home The further I get, the further I go This interstate gospel is saving my soul This interstate gospel is saving my soul
Interstate Gospel is a new kind of fairy tale, one that turns the false promise of a happy ending into a fresh start. Interstate Gospel Pistol Annies. A gender-flipped answer to country supergroup The Highwaymen, Pistol Annies-Miranda Lambert, Ashley Monroe, and Angaleena Presley-use their third album to take aim at tired ex-partners and those parts of themselves they’re ready to cast off. The post-divorce anthem Got My Name Changed Back and role-reversal roadhouse jam Sugar Daddy show off the trio’s cheek. But when they slow things down, as on the cutting but compassionate Best Years of My Life and When I Was His Wife, their harmonies and candid lyricism reveal the bruises hiding beneath all that bravado. Interstate Gospel is a new.
Pistol Annies - the trio of singer-songwriters Miranda Lambert, Angaleena Presley and Ashley Monroe - won huge critical praise for their 2013 LP Annie Up, a wry collection of songs about drinking and divorce. But unlike past efforts, where their narratives relied on a heavy dose of dark humor, the songs on Interstate Gospel convey a much more intimate personal urgency. The result, from the housewife harmony blues on Best Years of My Life to Lambert’s haunting post-divorce balladry on Masterpiece, is a sharply-rendered sketch of bruised hearts and shaken souls that amounts to the group’s most moving work to date.
Pistol Annies have three albums to their name now, but they don’t have any big hits unless you count their guest turn on Shelton’s 2013 smash Boys ‘Round Here. Pistol Annies is pretty clearly a superstar side project, a way for Lambert to blow off steam when she’s not busy with her own massively successful career. Monroe has also been thriving on her own lately, and Pistol Annies have been on hiatus for a while. There’s a lot of heartache on Interstate Gospel. It’s not a divorce album, but it does have divorce songs and breakup songs. And most of them aren’t exultant, the way Got My Name Changed Back is. Best Years Of My Life is a heavy-hearted look at a marriage in decline: I was looking forward to, Staying here forever cuz you asked me to, Didn’t think that I could do better, so I settled down, In this 10-cent town, It’s about to break me.
The last two Pistol Annies albums ranged from very good to brilliant; this album seems to be a breakthrough, a masterpiece that extends their already formidable gifts. The 14 songs on Interstate Gospel tell a tightly-woven story about adult restlessness, bittersweet farewells and hard-won independence.
