All the Young Dudes is the fifth studio album by Mott the Hoople, released in 1972. It was their initial album for the CBS Records label (Columbia Records in North America), after three years with Island Records in the UK and Atlantic Records in North America. All the Young Dudes was a turning point for the then-struggling British band. Mott the Hoople were about to break up when David Bowie stepped in and gave them the song "All the Young Dudes".

Mott The Hoople released four albums before All The Young Dudes and their near demise. When this song was released, they quickly found a following in the UK and scored five more Top 40 hits before breaking up in 1974, with guitarist Mick Ralphs moving on to form Bad Company. A Bowie-produced album, also called All the Young Dudes, sold well. Late in 1972 the band was going to record another Bowie song, "Drive-In Saturday", but their intended arrangement dissatisfied the composer, and their professional relationship effectively ended. Another casualty in the wake of All the Young Dudes was Verden Allen, who departed before the release of their next album, Mott. Songs likeAll the Young Dudes, Cleveland Rocks, Drivin Sister, Sweet Jane, Roll away the Stone, all the way to Memphis (to name a few) are just total classics and should be remembered forever!

The entire band was on a roll here, turning out great performances and writing with vigor. They may not be as sexy as either Bowie or Bolan, but they make up for it with knowing humor, huge riffs, and terrific tunes, dressed up with style by Ziggy himself. No wonder it's not just a great Mott record - it's one of the defining glam platters.

Mott the Hoople are an English rock band with strong R&B roots, popular in the glam rock era of the early to mid-1970s. They are best known for the song "All the Young Dudes", written for them by David Bowie and appearing on their 1972 album of the same name. Mott the Hoople were formed in 1966 as the Doc Thomas Group with Mick Ralphs on guitar, Stan Tippins on vocals, and Pete Overend Watts on bass.

All the young dudes (Hey dudes) Carry the news (Where are you?) Boogaloo dudes (Stand up) Carry the news (ha ha) All the young dudes (I want to hear you) Carry the news (I want to see you) Boogaloo dudes (I want to relate to you) Carry the news All the young dudes (What dudes?) Carry the news (Let's hear the news, c'mon) Boogaloo dudes (I want to kick you, ha ha ha ha) Carry the news. He said in an interview in 1973 that the song told the same story from the song Five Years from the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, and was about the newscaster message of impeding apocalypse and that Earth has five years left before it’s end. What have the artists said about the song?

The fourth of Mott The Hoople's Top 10 hits in 1972-3, it could have been a portent of future success  . Utterly dispirited, they’d all but split. Then David Bowie offered them one of his own new songs, All The Young Dudes, and Mott The Hoople were reborn as swaggering rock’n’roll hit-makers.
