Wild Bill Davison's grasp of rhythm, melody and powerful tone made him one of the very best trumpet players of his time and an authoritative innovator in the early days of jazz. Davison's wild ways were not confined to his musical expression, and a single show in Copenhagen in 1973 had him staying in the city for five more years seeing him collaborate with Danish bands and bringing to Europe his deep, affectionate insights into the core of the jazz idiom. WILD BILL DAVIS is a soul jazz, cool jazz swing music artist. With the dynamic, swirling sounds of his Hammond B-3 organ, Wild Bill Davis provided a bridge from the big band swing of the 1930s and '40s to the organ-driven R&B of the 1950s and early '60s. Together with guitarist Floyd Smith and drummer Chris Columbus, Davis set the framework for the jazz organ combo sound. Evening Concerto Swing 1956. Hit Songs From My Fair Lady Swing 1958.
Wild Bill Davis (November 24, 1918 – August 17, 1995) was the stage name of American jazz pianist, organist, and arranger William Strethen Davis. Davis was born in Glasgow, Missouri. He is best known for his pioneering jazz electronic organ recordings and for his tenure with the Tympany Five, the backing group for Louis Jordan. Prior to the emergence of Jimmy Smith in 1956, Davis (whom Smith had reportedly first seen playing organ in the 1930s) was the pacesetter among organists.
