Alfred Hawthorne "Benny" Hill (21 January 1924 – 20 April 1992) was an English comedian and actor, best remembered for his television programme The Benny Hill Show, an amalgam of slapstick, burlesque, and double entendre in a format that included live comedy and filmed segments, with him at the focus of almost every segment. Hill was a prominent figure in British culture for nearly four decades.

Who Done It? is a 1956 British comedy film directed by Basil Dearden and starring Benny Hill, Belinda Lee, David Kossoff, Garry Marsh, and George Margo. The film opened at the New Victoria and Dominion Cinemas in London on 18 March 1956 before rolling out nationwide. One of the last Ealing comedies has Benny Hill making his screen debut in this film about an ice rink sweeper, Hugo Dill, who dreams of being a private investigator.

Welcome to the All-New Benny Hill Tribute. I had written a tribute to Benny here quite some time ago, but it was brief and not very indepth. I decided that it needed to be revised and I could think of no one more capable than our own William Brown to do the job. He has also used some of the material I had written in the original in this new tribute. As if appearing on stage night after night wasn't enough, he made his feature film debut in a serviceable piece called Who Done It? (not to be confused with the 1942 Abbott & Costello vehicle of the same name). Eighteen months into the play's run, he became thoroughly fed up with it, and convinced its producer, impresario Bernard Delfont, to let him out. Delfont agreed - but as part of the deal, forced Hill, over the next few years (1957-1960), to star in a series of specials for ATV which happened to be run by Delfont's brother, Lew Grade.

Alfred Hawthorn Benny Hill was born in the small southern British coastal town of Southampton on January 21, 1924. After leaving school, Hill held several jobs: milkman, bridge operator, driver, then as a drummer, and his yearning to perform eventually led him to take a job as an assistant stage manager. Although Hill was primarily known as a television personality, he made occasional appearances in film, beginning around 1956 in a motion picture called Who Done It? Hill also performed in the 1965 movie Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines as Fire Chief Perkins, in the 1968 movieChitty-Chitty Bang Bang (Love) as the toy maker, and several others.
