Hot (I Need To Be Loved, Loved, Loved, Loved)", is a funk song by James Brown. Released as a single in December 1975, it reached on the R&B chart. It uses the main riff from the David Bowie song "Fame", released earlier the same year. Guitarist Carlos Alomar, who created the borrowed riff and was a co-writer on "Fame", was briefly in James Brown's band in the late 1960s. The song also appeared as the lead track on Brown's 1976 album Hot.

Although Brown's work for the most part is thought-provoking, the backing track for this causes even more dispute. By late 1974, Brown seemed to be taxing himself, releasing an excess of singles and albums. At the same time, disco was on the horizon and his core bandmembers began hitting the exits. Just as Brown's variant of Southern funk was winding down, his profile and stake in the New York funk was raising higher. At the heart of the early disco era, Brown created the sex ode "Hot (I Need to Be Loved, Loved, Loved, Loved)

Listen to this song and then David Bowie's Fame. HUH!

Wonder if James Brown ever heard Fame by David Bowie?

Supposedly James Brown specifically instructed his bandleader to adapt the Bowie tune for his own band. When asked about it, Bowie remarked that he took the obvious theft as a profound compliment. I imagine that James Brown had a strong inkling that the market likely to pick up "Hot" was probably not buying a lot of Bowie records.
