Mind you, their debut album came out in 1984. I remember I didn't like that record when I first heard but I spent a lot of time with it and ended up loving it. Then nothing else really did it for me since it had some moments. but it wasn't really that great. But the thing is I'm way older now and I'm not in a rush to revisit those early albums either. Red Hot Chili Peppers have the best into jams of any band, ever. But that is not one of them lol. Just my opinion.
There are a few differences between the tracklisting printed on the back sleeve and in the booklet. Track 8: Artists printed on back sleeve as 'Cesária Évora + Caetano Veloso + Ryuichi Sakamoto'. Track 18: Artists printed on back sleeve as 'Chico Science X DJ Soul Slinger'. No mention of Nação Zumbi.

VARIOUS Red Hot + Fela Knitting Factory Records. It’s no surprise that Red Hot has dedicated a second volume of their series to the music of Fela, the pioneer of Afrobeat and himself a victim of AIDS, the disease that Red Hot raises money to fight. Like most tributes, and its predecessor, this album is something of a stew

The Red Hot Chili Peppers' self-titled album Red Hot Chili Peppers/EMI. In 1983, high school classmates Anthony Kiedis, Michael Balzary, Slovak and Jack Irons formed a band to play a one-off show in Los Angeles. It went well, and they decided to keep playing. That went well too, and record label EMI decided to sign them to a contract. With Jack Sherman and Cliff Martinez replacing Slovak and Irons-who'd left to focus on another project-the Peppers released their self-titled debut album in 1984. They weren't thrilled with the result, later calling the album too polished
