Steve Winwood - I'm Not Drowning Songtext. Black night down heavy on my weary brow Light shining in the pouring rain Can see somehow cold comfort in the broken trees But I won't let it bring me to my knees I'm not flying, but I'm not drowning now. Keep driving, don't matter if the highway's lost Keep running, never turn your head Count the cost ghost waiting where the roads all cross Big deal waiting when you get to meet the boss Clouds are breaking, I'm not drowning now Drowning no. .Flying, but I'm not drowning no.
Steve Winwood's Nine Lives marks a more organic return to recording. This will be good news for those who live for any resurrection of rock heroes from days of yore, and bad for those who loved his hit singles in the 1980s and '90s. Seven of these nine cuts resemble (at least partially) those found on his last album, the brilliant About Time issued in 2003. The latter was a barnstormer of a rhythm and rock album (feels like Traffic meets Santana) that never got its proper due. Winwood produced this set for his debut on Columbia. The opening cut is the acoustic blues "I'm Not Drowning" with Winwood playing all the instruments. It's a gentle but effective blues moaner. Its 12-bar structure, hosts a memorable acoustic guitar lick that's ready-made for sampling.
Steve Winwood - I'm Not Drowning . Steve Winwood - I'm Not Drowning . Just received the 2LP of the Nine Lives album today. Made due with the CD for years. the vinyl blows it out of the water. I've loved Steve Winwood's work for decades, and he is one of the greats - but this tune has to be borrowed from Bob Dylan's "Foot of Pride. If not, it has chords in it that could remind anyone with a sharp ear that it has roots in Dylan's tune
Winwood's 2008 release finds him touching on pretty much every aspect of his career, from the heavy blues of "Dirty City," which features the guitarwork of Eric Clapton, to Traffic-style groove rock ("Raging Sea") to straight-up soul ("We're All Looking"), and even the adult alternative mellowness of his '80s period. The opener, "I'm Not Drowning," is a stripped-bare and highly effective delta blues that features Winwood's trademark talent with a melody at the chorus
