The Bonny Bunch of Roses" (Roud 664, Laws J5) is a folk song written by an unknown balladeer from the British Isles, presumably with Irish sympathies. The earliest known version of the tune is in William Christie's Tradition Ballad Airs, Volume 2 (1881), but there is another tune, of Irish origin. There is an obvious difficulty in identifying the narrator's voice.
The Bonny Bunch of Roses (album). The Bonny Bunch of Roses is the 12th studio album by Fairport Convention. This album had the highest number of traditional songs that Fairport had recorded since Liege & Lief. For this album, Simon Nicol returned after an absence of five years although he had contributed some guitar to the previous record, Gottle O'Geer and mixed the album. It was recorded between August 1976 and March 1977 at Island Studios, London.

This album had the highest number of traditional songs that Fairport had recorded since Liege & Lief. Side one. Side two. 2 Personnel.
After the failure of Gottle O'Geer, a poor, unfocussed album, some core members of Fairport arranged a new record deal and decided to have some fun, having accepted their place in the musical world. Let by fiddler Dave Swarbrick and guitarist Simon Nicol, they made a couple of fun, unpretentious and surprisingly rocking electric folk albums in this and Tippler's Tales. The album features a couple of sets of vigorous jigs and reels, as always, but also some great choices of vocal material, particularly the title track, a 1. minute tale of the Napoleonic wars
