Mazeppa was recorded in February 1961. All selections were recorded at the e in the Berlin suburb of Dahlem, a venue which hosted dozens and dozens of Karajan/Berlin Philharmonic recording sessions until around 1975 when the orchestra's recordings were primarily taped in the Philhamonie.
