This set of legendary performances by LaSalle Quartet of all string quartets by Schoenberg, Webern, and Berg has been reissued by Brilliant Classics Schoenberg; Berg; Webern - String Quartets at a very attractive price. The performance here is outstanding, with well judged tempos and very tight ensemble.

The Second Viennese School (German: Zweite Wiener Schule, Neue Wiener Schule) is the group of composers that comprised Arnold Schoenberg and his pupils and close associates in early 20th century Vienna, where he lived and taught, sporadically, between 1903 and 1925.

Arnold Schönberg (13 September 1874 – 13 July 1951) was an Austrian composer and painter, associated with the expressionist movement in German poetry and art, and leader of the Second Viennese School. After his move to the United States in 1934, he altered the spelling of his surname from Schönberg to Schoenberg. Schönberg's approach, both in terms of harmony and development, has been one of the most influential of 20th-century musical thought.
