The Royal Scam is the first Steely Dan record that doesn't exhibit significant musical progress from its predecessor, but that doesn't mean the album is any less interesting. The cynicism that was suppressed on Katy Lied comes roaring to the surface on The Royal Scam - not only are the lyrics bitter and snide, but the music is terse, broken, and weary.

Stereo vinyl lp! Steely Dan: The Royal Scam! 1976 ABC Release! TRACKS: A. I own all of Steely Dan's quote classic albums and in my opinion The Royal Scam has it all. All the tunes are perfect creations melding rock guitars jazzy keys and horns with phat R&B and funk grooves.

The album cover of The Royal Scam features a homeless man laying on a bench. Behind him are monolithic skyscrapers topped with the snarling heads of a wolf, snake, alligator and bear. This dark, eerie cover sets the stage for a cynical album. Pedro from PortugalPlease, Steely Dan fans. Dont pay attention to Hbc from london.
