During that monumental year, the Blades Of Grass managed to land a deal with Jubilee Records, tour with some of the biggest names in pop, including the Fifth Dimension, the Dave Clark Five and Neil Diamond, and score a modest hit with a Tony Michaels-Vinny Gormann-penned song called "Happy. Rev-Ola is proud to present the Blades Of Grass's entire released output on CD for the first time ever.

Twelve short tracks with emphasis on harmony singing which at times take on a mild psychedelic colour is what's in store here. A few unexciting and unnecessary covers of songs like Help! and Walk away Renee give the album an uneven quality. On the positive side there are innocent sunshine pop tracks as Just ah and Or is it the rain and the best cut Just another face with inventive orchestration and fine harmonies

A new version of Last. The Blades of Grass Are Not for Smoking. Overview (current section).

New England's Blades of Grass were every bit as good as any of the other so-called sunshine pop groups that surfaced in the psychedelic summer of 1967, and if it weren't for a run of just plain blind bad luck, might have had a chance for bigger and better things. As it was, they managed just one album and a handful of singles before calling it quits

Discography: Blades Of Grass, The. The Blades Of Grass Are Not For Smoking (1968).

Actually the Blades of Grass' single was the much bigger hit in some markets, like New York, Washington DC, and St. Louis. But the two competing versions of the same song split sales, with the Sunshine Company, generally speaking, doing better in the western half of the country, and the Blades of Grass better in the eastern half. The Blades of Grass Are Not for Smoking Much of the Blades of Grass's personality was subsumed in the studio, where their tracks were given rather heavy orchestration, and where they seldom recorded original material. The Blades of Grass did record a few additional non-LP singles in the late '60s before breaking up. The album, plus seven additional songs (mostly from non-LP 45s), was reissued on CD by Rev-Ola in 2002. mufty77 30 August 2018 23:07. Many thanks for lossless.

The Blades of Grass were an American sunshine pop band formed in Maplewood, New Jersey, in 1967. Competing with the abundance of sunshine pop groups originating from California, the Blades of Grass are most-known for their nationally charting rendition of the song "Happy". The band also released an album called The Blades of Grass Are Not for Smoking before disbanding.

The Blades of Grass had a moderate hit with "Happy" reaching number 87 on the Billboard Hot 100, while their competitor peaked at number 50. Surprisingly enough, the group's second single, "I Love You Alice B. Toklas" from the film of the same name, was also simultaneously distributed in early-1968 with another version by Harpers Bizarre (whose version was used. More releases followed throughout 1968 that failed to chart, including their debut album, The Blades of Grass Are Not for Smoking. The Blades of Grass were especially subdued in the studio to other songwriters' material, though Black, the band's main composer, claimed to have penned nearly 100 songs during the group's existence. The album contained heavily orchestrated instrumentals and. airy vocal harmonies that were coherent with many California-based sunshine groups.
