The White Buffalo is the professional moniker and stage name of American musician and singer/songwriter Jake Smith. Born in Oregon in 1974/1975, and raised in California, Jake Smith grew up listening to country music and punk rock. He studied history at university. The largest influences on his songwriting are folk singers such as Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.
He keeps things unclassifiable on the White Buffalo's sixth album, Darkest Darks, Lightest Lights, the most hard-hitting, electrified album of his career. Although recorded in Smith's hometown of Los Angeles, where he grew up listening to the country twang of George Jones and the pissed-off punk of Bad Religion, Darkest Darks, Lightest Lights looks to the passion and punch of White Buffalo's live shows for inspiration
The White Buffalo is a band formed, fronted and led by singer and songwriter Jake Smith, who hails from Southern California, United States. Since debuting in 2002, the band have become true cult heroes for their edgy, atmospheric take on rocked up Americana. They say all metal-heads turn to jazz once they grow out of heavy metal. After picking the name The White Buffalo as his stage moniker, Smith continued writing and performing until, in 2002, he self-released his first album Hogtied Like A Rodeo. After following that up with an . in 2005, he re-recorded his whole first album in 2008 himself and released it again as Hogtied Revisited.
The White Buffalo is the moniker of alternative country singer/songwriter Jake Smith. Along with his backing band, he released his debut album Hogtied Revisited, in 2009, exposing his raw, honest and energetic brand of country rock to a widespread audience for the first time. He has since released several subsequent EPs, as well as a follow-up LP, titled Once Upon a Time In the West, in 2012.
