Strangely Strange are an experimental Irish folk group, formed in Dublin in 1967 by Tim Booth (born 6 September 1943, County Kildare, Ireland), vocals and guitar, and Ivan Pawle (born 17 August 1943, England) bass and keyboards.

The sound as a whole is quite well made however with nice instrumental separation and the pressing is quiet when the recording static is not present. Without it the record could likely have been made a little more dynamic however. Its not exactly a rock and roll album so you are likely not going to whaile about it though. Overall a great sounding reissue with just some slight shortcomings which honestly the original probably doesnt overcome either. Get this and you are sure to be pleased!

On their first album, Irish band Doctor Strangely Strange declared themselves to be "strangely strange but oddly normal," and by their time of their second effort, 1970's Heavy Petting, it's possible that "oddly normal" no longer applied. The spiritual cousins of the Incredible String Band, although less rooted in folk traditions, their music flitted around like a butterfly, rarely settling anywhere for long - and certainly never for the length of an entire song.

Dr Strangely Strange. author: Klemen Breznikar. Dr Strangely Strange. Other times Gary would arrive back with either some new album he was into, or – because he had a phenomenal memory – he would take his guitar and play us something he thought we ought to know about, perhaps a new Zappa offering, and he could not only do all the guitar parts but the voices as well and remember all the stage announcements. and laughter would split the seams of the house. The 1968 Spirit album, The Family That Plays Together, was the first LP he owned and a particular favourite. Adrian Whittaker: These days, Heavy Petting is one of Record Collector’s 100 most collectable progressive albums; in theory, mint copies can fetch up to £1,000, though the usual rate looks to be around £300. It’s now becoming one of those albums that is better known for its sleeve than the music contained on it.

The record is cut a little loud you could say, but all things considered thats probably a good thing. The recording static can be heard on certain tracks and having the volume lower could make that noise intrucive. It makes me wonder if the used different sources for certain tracks as few are also more sibilant. The sound as a whole is quite well made however with nice instrumental separation and the pressing is quiet when the recording static is not present. Without it the record could likely have been made a little more dynamic however.
