Arthur De Greef (10 October 1862 – 29 August 1940) was a Belgian pianist and composer. Born in Louvain, he won first prize in a local music competition when he was only 11, and subsequently enrolled at the Brussels Conservatoire. His main teacher there was Louis Brassin, a former pupil of Ignaz Moscheles, although he also took lessons from other staffers at the institution, including Joseph Dupont, François-Auguste Gevaert and Fernand Kufferath.

Jacques Stehman (Brussels, 8 July 1912 – 20 May 1975) was a Belgian author, critic, pianist and composer. One of his most popular works is Symphonie de poche, composed in 1950. That year he published L'histoire de la musique en Belgique. In 1964 he published his L'histoire de la musique Europeenne des origines a nos jours. He taught practical harmony and music history at the Brussels Conservatory. He also wrote musical criticism for Le soir.

Arthur De Greef's recordings of three concerted works by Franz Liszt, the E flat and A Major Piano Concerti and the Hungarian Fantasy, are also significant historical documents. These recordings can be found on the de Greef plays concerti page. As far as we know, only two pianists who studied with Liszt have recorded the concerto, Emil von Sauer being the other. De Greef's early studies were under Louis Brassin at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. De Greef began to compose in his thirties and numbers two piano concerti among his works (these have been recorded by the pianist Andre de Groote for the Marco Polo label), but it is as a great pianist of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries that he is known. The examples below of Arthur De Greef's solo playing provide considerable insight into his manner and style of playing. These performances show a different side of the pianist.
