Dannie Richmond is a great jazz drummer and has assembled a wonderful collection of musicians to present a fantastic session of Charlie Mingus compositions. Dannie also played with the Mark-Almond Band. The album shines from the first note to the last. Dannie was with the Mingus band for many years and knew him as well as anyone and was in fact a very key member of the band. Check out the two different takes of (Cumbia and Jazz Fusion), they simply scream. The horn section playing by Ricky Ford and Jack Walrath is brilliant. Fluid bebop straight ahead jazz in top form

Artist: Dannie Richmond Album: The Last Mingus Band . The stripped-down version holds its own charm, wit and power, perhaps more than the Mingus take because of the lack of density and the space given for individuals to shine, those being drummer Richmond, trumpeter Jack Walrath, saxophonist Ricky Ford, pianist Bob Neloms and bassist Cameron Brown. Richmond has since passed away, leaving this great recording behind as a testament to his voracity and the enduring legacy of Mingus.
