He seems intent on making the album a listenable one that will appeal to a broad base of fans, and he succeeds despite the exclusion of much of the harrowing work of 1973-1975. Nevertheless, the album is an ideal sampler for new listeners, and since there is no one-disc Young compilation covering any significant portion of his career, this lengthy chronicle is the place to start.
Neil Young is the self-titled debut studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young following his departure from Buffalo Springfield in 1968, issued on Reprise Records. Some sources place the album's release date on January 22, 1969, while other sources have the release date as Young's 23rd birthday, November 12, 1968. It was then partially remixed and re-released in November 1969, but at no time has the album ever charted on the Billboard 200.
The discography and filmography of Neil Young contains both albums and films produced by Young. Through his career most of Young's work has been recorded for and distributed by Reprise Records, that company owned by Warner Bros. Records since 1963 and now part of the Warner Music Group. The only exceptions are Young's five albums for Geffen Records in the 1980s, which were once distributed by Warner, but are now distributed by Universal Music Group.
It contains 35 of Young's songs recorded between 1966 and 1976, among them five tracks that had been unreleased up to that point. It peaked at No. 43 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart, and was certified platinum by the RIAA in 1986.
Neil Young’s Greatest Hits before 1977. This 35 track album shows the musical intelligence of Neil Young, along other artists such as Crazyhorse and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Primary Artists Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Neil Young & 2 more.
Decade represents the best of Neil Young's work. The songs were sung when his voice was still strong and vibrant. The album contains some great guitar riffs and the instrumentation makes for a gaggle of great songs. As always Young's lyrics and voice combine for an awesome listening experience, but don't take my word for it, listen to the samples. You'll hear the songs that have been on the radio since the 1960's.
