Buz Ludzha is the new alias of Derry's Andrew Morrison, who made a splash last year with an album as The Cyclist. Both qualities are amply present in the debut Ludzha release. Arriving courtesy of All City's Alias series, these two tracks claim to make more direct overtures to the dance floor than Morrison's work as The Cyclist. Still, only the bravest DJ would risk airing these grizzled sonics in a packed club.

Last year’s debut single on All City, Love Repetitive Rhythmics, traced the template but his newest EP, Basslines For Life, delivers on its title, going harder and stretching further into this unique splinter mode of wrecked EQ’s: grainy drum machinery, gain-streaked synths, decayed soul samples, motorik dancefloor manoeuvres in the dark.

They don’t happen too often but there’s nothing like that rush of adrenaline to the head when you hear a great, inspirational record. The moment this writer heard Love Repetitive Rhythmics, it brought to mind the emotions felt when first experiencing all the other records that are cherished and personally held dear. Maybe it’s because there’s something charmingly naïve about it or perhaps it’s because both tracks are straightforwardly arranged without sounding too simplistic. Title Love Repetitive Rhythmics.

More club-focused than his output as The Cyclist, both cuts still sound distinctly knackered, like they’ve been melting in a glovebox for a couple of decades. Love Repetitive Rhythmics’ is out on vinyl and digitally on February 10, and is the first of three 12″s promised by Morrison on the All City label this year.
