Is Howe II simply a copy of Van Halen then? No, calling them just that would be way too easy considering the talent this band showcases. All songs are written by the band itself, all musicians are incredibly skilled and the album nowhere sounds like it's prefabricated or completely thought out. If anything it's as loose sounding as the early Van Halen Roth era albums (1978-1984) and instead of Sammy Hagar or Gary Cherone the Van Halen brothers should have asked Al Howe to join their group because his strong voice and way of singing would have fit the group much better.
high-tech Van Halen and released the inspired, super-charged High Gear. Much as many other guitar hero-types of the late '80s were redirecting their talents toward a more commercially minded band sound (like Paul Gilbert's Mr. Big), Greg's Howe 2 project was aiming for a more mainstream market. And, truth be told, Howe 2 outgunned many of their contemporaries. The songs on High Gear are good, the riffs are killer, and the execution is flawless
