Fear is the fourth solo studio album by Welsh musician John Cale, released on 1 October 1974 by Island Records. Fear is the first of Cale's three studio albums for Island Records, all of which were released in a period of just over a year. During this time Cale was also producing records for other artists, working on albums such as Horses by Patti Smith, one of the most influential of all proto-punk records.

I can't help it You're perfect for me I couldn't care less You're perfect for me I've been waiting You're perfect for me right now In the moment You're perfect for me I've been waiting You're perfect for me I'm not perfect But you're perfect for me right now I've been. waiting for the moment I'm not perfect But you're perfect for me I couldn't care less You're perfect for me From a distance You're perfect for me right now And I'm sitting next to you.

The supporting crew on Cale's final Island album makes for a lineup that could never have happened again - at least, in terms of future results, imagining, among others, Cale, Chris Spedding, Brian Eno, and Phil Collins once more in the same room together seems totally unlikely. Regardless of the oddity, Cale once again led a great ensemble band (Spedding now having fully taken over from Manzanera on guitar) through another set of great, inspiring songs.

This is the perfect album title/album cover combination. A lot of you are in bands, aren't you? You all like music and you all have hopes. Elton John absolutely will not be doing that.

Fragments of a Rainy Season (Double Six). With Cale’s current band (featured on his last studio album Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood) involved again, the new versions that constitute M:FANS are more fleshed-out, heavier concoctions, in line with his current p configurations. In 1982, Music For A New Society sounded exactly like its title: something futuristic, a new kind of songwriting exercise. In 2015, M:FANS is exactly that too, full of electrical crackle and disturbed frequencies, a different kind of dystopian future awaits.
