Shake It Up is the fourth studio album by American rock band The Cars, released in 1981. It was the last album by the Cars to be produced by Roy Thomas Baker. A much more pop-oriented album than its predecessor, its title track became their first Billboard top ten hit. All tracks written by Ric Ocasek, except where noted. Ric Ocasek – rhythm guitar, lead vocals on 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9. Elliot Easton – lead guitar, backing vocals. Greg Hawkes – keyboards, backing vocals.

Brown was involved in the production of a landmark record in 1963, the game-changing Live at the Apollo. This phenomenal LP spearheaded a change in the perception of black musicians being only singles rather than album artists. Yet it would be another two years before the musician started living up to his initial promise as regards the Billboard chart. It was the studio’s loss: it would be Brown’s only certified gold studio album. Watergate had brought down Nixon, Gerald Ford was interim president and, given Brown’s public political endorsement, it’s not too much of a stretch to see this call for black self-determination as a frantic attempt to distance himself from the scandal.

Brown is his wild and reckless self for most of 'Old. And the music is thumping and cranked, pushing club and bass and hip-hop sounds all the way up and beyond. But there are also several less-crazed tunes where Brown shows his ability for critical storytelling and self-reflection. 4. 'Clean Up'. This is one of the soft and thoughtful songs on 'Old' that shows a new side of Brown. Old' is, in part, an album about change. And he runs wild with it. Related.

The new setup allowed the Cars more time to tinker with their sound, but also meant that much of the album was recorded in pieces by each member of the band, instead of them being in the same room. While it's not something that seems like an issue on the album's big hits, the pensive "Since You're Gone" and the timelessly silly title track, other songs on the record mostly sound a little lifeless and mechanical, filled with tinny drum machines, odd sound effects, and not much inspiration.
