In ufology, a close encounter is an event in which a person witnesses an unidentified flying object. Categories beyond Hynek's original three have been added by others but have not gained universal acceptance, mainly because they lack the scientific rigor that Hynek aimed to bring to ufology.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is the film score to the 1977 film of the same name, composed and conducted by John Williams. The soundtrack album was released on vinyl album (with a gatefold sleeve), 8-track tape and audio cassette by Arista Records in 1977, with a total running time of 41 minutes (it was later released on compact disc in 1990)

The UK's Top 100 biggest artist albums of the week is compiled by the Official Charts Company, based on sales of CDs, downloads, vinyl and weighted audio streams  . However, "Madame X" still had a swift and brutal drop down the charts in only its second week. Obviously, Bruce Springsteen has a bit more respect for the credibility of his musical art than Madonna does. Glasgow1975, 1 day ago.

The soundtrack album was a commercial success, peaking at on the US Billboard album chart in February 1978 and was certified Gold by the RIAA for 500,000 copies shipped Although not included on the original soundtrack album, a 7" single of a disco treatment of the five-note motif, titled, "Theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind", was included with the album as a free bonus item.

Close Encounters has a slightly unconventional, slightly lopsided structure. It has four acts: its first act is less than 30 minutes long, its second is a kind-of long 48 minutes, its third act is a swift, action-packed 20 minutes and its fourth act is a stately, processional 30 minutes. Unable to find satisfaction in the assurances of the US government (who are struggling with their own interpretation of the message), Roy turns, as many do, to the realm of artistic expression. He tries to express divine will through the artistic impulse, and in many ways Act II of Close Encounters is a metaphor for the life of an artist - The Agony and the Ecstasy with flying saucers. But first, Roy goes back to the mountain road to try to re-create his initial encounter.
