David Bowie is the self-titled debut studio album by English musician David Bowie, released on 1 June 1967, on Deram Records. Its style and content bears little overt resemblance to the type of music that he was later known for, such as the folk rock influenced "Space Oddity" or the glam rock of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.
David Bowie is the second studio album by the English musician David Bowie, released under that title by Philips in the UK, and as Man of Words/Man of Music by Mercury in the US, on 14 November 1969. It was reissued in 1972 by RCA Records as Space Oddity (the title of the opening track, which had reached No. 5 in the UK Singles Chart). Space Oddity was the name used for CD releases of the album in 1984, 1990 and 1999, but it reverted to the original, eponymous title for 2009 and 2015 reissues.

David Bowie (1969) - The debut misfire. It’s English folk in which 20-year-old Bowie wants to be The Kinks. It’s bad, but it’s promisingly weird. There’s a song about forced abortions as a means of population control. A sign of weird Bowie to come. Also, Sell Me a Coat is lovely. Space Oddity, David Bowie (1969)– The album starts with the title track, which is a class and a 1,000% improvement from the previous album. Then it gets back to English folk, but it’s much more developed than the first album. Earthling (1997) - The electronica album. My terrible high school rock band covered Little Wonder. I’m Afraid of Americans really stands out as his best song since 1983. Hours (1999) - Bowie just phoned in this one. It isn’t bad, because it isn’t anything. Heathen (2002) - I’m shocked by how much I like this.
The biggest fault of this album is that it simply lacks the very essence of what makes a Bowie album so singularly his own. It’s a competent, completely indistinct set of tunes that barely hints at the genius to come, much less the artist’s distinctive personality. This was part soundtrack to a cyberpunk video game starring Bowie as a god-like entity, and part adult contemporary narcotic. It’s got interesting production, but the songs go nowhere.
David Bowie has died, aged 69. In 2013, we spoke to some of the people whose careers have been tied up with his. Here are their tale. David is a too-far person. He doesn't drink any more because he took that too far. He lives a very clean life now, but I'm sure he's obsessing about something else. The Next Day, David Bowie's first album for 10 years, is released on Iso/Columbia on 11 March. A 40th anniversary remaster of the Aladdin Sane album is released by Parlophone on 15 April.

The earliest album in the box, 1969's David Bowie - . Man of Words/Man of Music- wasn't Bowie's recorded debut, or even his first self-titled album. In fact, there could theoretically be a Five Years 1964-1968, tracing his evolution from rock 'n' roll wannabe to fussy vaudevillean, although it would mostly be kind of awful. The whole album, in fact, is as erotically charged as an orgone accumulator: Bowie was probably the only person who could have remained sexually ambiguous after declaring "I'm gay, and always have been. Aladdin Sane, recorded while Bowie and the Spiders were touring their asses off in an attempt to get America to love them the way England already did, is effectively Ziggy Stardust II, a harder-rocking if less original variation on the hit album.
David Bowie began writing the music on Hunky Dory on his first visit to America in 1971. The whole Hunky Dory album reflected my newfound enthusiasm for this new continent that had been opened up to me," Bowie said in 1999. That was the first time a real outside situation affected me so 100 percent that it changed my way of writing and the way I look at things. Traveling by bus from Washington, .
